2013-2014 Timeline

March 22, 2013 - Website for The Academy for Classical Education went live containing information about the proposed Charter School. The website included links to complete the petition and the survey required.   The Academy for Classical Education also launched its Facebook page on this same date. 

March 26, 2013 - Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes were guests on WMAZ Channel 13 Macon, GA to announce that they had begun the process to open The Academy for Classical Education, a charter school for Macon/Bibb County students serving students in grades 6-8.

April 4, 2013 - Article featuring ACE appeared in www.wearepolitics.com written by author Bill Knowles entitled "Alternatives Coming to Bibb for Education."

April 8, 2013 – The Telegraph (newspaper in Macon, GA) announces that The Academy for Classical Education will hold its first Forum on April 9, 2013 at Northway Church on Zebulon Rd. in Macon from 7-9PM. Approximately 65 community members attended.

April 9, 2013 - Channel 41 News in Macon, GA aired the story about the proposed Academy for Classical Education including interviews done at the Forum with founders and community members.

April 23, 2013 - ACE held its second forum at Harvest Cathedral on Rocky Creek Road, Macon, GA from 7-9PM.  Approximately 32 community members attended. 

April 26, 2013 - ACE announces via Facebook that after reviewing surveys and talking with community members they made the decision to add a K-5 grade configuration to their application. 

May 10, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes presented to the Macon Riverside Optimist Club.  Approximately 30 members were present. 

May 22, 2013 - Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes appeared on the local radio show “Mix in the Morning” to discuss The Academy for Classical Education.

May 22, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes presented to the Macon Downtown Rotary Club.  Approximately 100 members were present.

May 20, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes submitted article to local paper The Telegraph, regarding ACE and the upcoming forum at the Rosewood Ballroom.

May 23, 2013 - ACE held its third forum at the Rosewood Ballroom on College Street in Macon, from 7-9PM.  Approximately 45 community members attended.

June 2013 -  Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "ACE Hoping to Change Education in Macon." 

June 4, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes and ACE Founding Board members Bob Easter and Witt Gaither met with President Kathryn Dennis of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

July 2013 - Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "ACE Hoping to Change Education in Macon."

September 15, 2013 - Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "Academy for Classical Education Presenting Charter Plan to BOE."

September 25, 2013 -  www.Georgiapundit.com featured ACE when founder appeared on GPB radio show "The Rise in GA."

September 26, 2013 - Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "Academy for Classical Education Moving Ahead."

September 19, 2013 - Presented ACE Charter Plan to local Board of Education and received local approval.

September 20, 2013 - Macon television news station 13wmaz featured ACE in the news story "Two Charter Schools Approved for Bibb County."  reporter Elise Brown

September 24, 2013 - Article in Macon Telegraph entitled "Charter School Approvals on the Rise" featured information about ACE.  Reporter, Leah Fleming

October 24, 2013 - ACE featured in local newspaper The 11th Hour in article entitled "Well, You Got Most Things Right Macon/Bibb."

October 31, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes appeared on Mix in the Morning to promote the first Pre-Admission Forum to be held at City Hall November 9, 2013.

November 9, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes held a Parent Forum for prospective parents at Macon City Hall.

November 11, 2013 - Article in Macon Telegraph entitled "First Bibb County Charter School Session Draws 200."  Reporter, Joe Kovack Jr.

November 2013 - Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "What is Classical Education." 

Nov. 23, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes held a Teacher Recruitment Fair at Mercer University for prospective teachers.

November. 25, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes participated in Middle Georgia State College's Teacher Candidate Interviews. 

December 2013 - Macon Community News featured ACE in the article entitled "Is the Academy for Classical Education Right for Your Child?" 

December. 5, 2013 - Article in Macon Telegraph entitled "Academy for Classical Education Hosting Pre-Admission Forum."  Staff writer

December. 6, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes appeared on Z93.7 to promote upcoming Parent Forum and Book Fair.

December. 6, 7, 8, 2013 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes held a 2nd Parent Forum for prospective parents at Barnes and Noble Book Sellers in Macon.

December. 13, 2013 - Featured article in the Macon Telegraph entitled  "Bibb Charter Schools Ramping up Preparation." Reporter Mike Stucka

January 7, 2014 - Featured article in The Telegraph entitled "Bibb Charter School has new home."  Reporter Oby Brown

January 11, 2014 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes were guests on 13WMAZ Weekend Morning to speak about ACE and the pre-admission forum scheduled for 1/11/14.

April 6, 2014 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes were invited to speak with parents at Forest Hills United Methodist Church.

April 14, 2014 - Featured article in The Telegraph entitled "Work Underway on New Macon Charter School".  Reporter Jenna Mink

May 12, 2014 - Featured article in The Telegraph entitled ""Wait List Growing for Georgia Charter Schools".  Reporter Jenna Mink

May 22, 2014 - ACE Founders Laura Perkins and Esterine Stokes were guests at the monthly meeting of the Bibb County Republican Party.
